Jack Stephenson was a friend of mine.  For many years I used his gear as I hitched hiked about the US on my way to and from college, conferences and National Parks.  One day in the Ten Lakes area of the Sierra’s a bear damaged my backpack.  I made my way to Jacks in Southern California and found post cards on his shop walls that I had sent over the years.  Iconoclastic, bombastic and brilliant  Jack was an Aerospace engineer who made a tent for himself in 1955 that changed the camping industry forever.
